And I’ll just go straight to the point.

I don’t like copycats. They irritate the hell out of me.

I’ve encountered some of them recently and I’m utterly pissed off at how they do things.

I’ll agree that original ideas are hard to come by, and all of us have our own influences and stuff we get inspiration from, but that’s completely different from directly COPYING an idea, say, a character design, and then giving it a few slight modifications like changing the hair color and adjusting the character’s tie by a few centimeters and THEN claiming that character is yours. Seriously, the resemblance is too painfully obvious.


We all start off by admiration—We adore a specific character from a certain series, for instance, and from there, we get inspired to draw and create. We imitate and we learn.

But later on we grow out of it and start developing our own ideas. Copycats get stuck at the first stage and they DON’T grow out of it. Worse, some of them know it’s wrong to steal other people’s ideas, but they completely ignore that fact and copy anyway.

I highly doubt if they even bothered taking the creator’s feelings into consideration. Maybe that idea they stole took the creator months to brainstorm and develop—maybe even years.


It’s unfair.


The only consolation I have regarding this issue is that the copied ideas are never better than the original ones. And that hopefully, in time, those copycats will realize what they’re doing isn’t really helping them at all; all of this blind copying and pasting stops their imagination from flowing.
